Volunteer

We rely on big hearts in our community to sort donated items, fill requests, and quickly get essentials to children in need in our community. We have opportunities to help in the office, at home, on your own time, with family or friends, and as a group!

Current Volunteer Opportunities

On Site Help: Greet people dropping off in-kind donations, sort donated items, fill individual requests and diaper orders for partners, and assist with projects in the office. Office volunteers must be at least 18 years old, unless accompanied by a parent/guardian. CLICK HERE to sign up!

Delivery Driver: This is our highest need! Help us deliver essential items and diapers to our 70+ partners. Deliveries take about one hour, and many volunteers do this with friends or with kids in the car! SIGN UP HERE!

Grab and Go: We wash all gently-used clothes and soft goods donated to Little Hands to ensure everything is clean and fresh. Grab a couple bags of clothing donations from our office and take home to wash and sort and bring back at your convenience. Click HERE to sign up.

Recycling: We receive a lot of boxes. Help Little Hands recycle! Sign up HERE.

PLEASE NOTE: Little Hands Virginia does not allow court-mandated community service. If you are signing up for school community service hours and need a form filled out, please follow the directions while registering to make sure we have the information in advance.

Group Volunteer Sign-Up

We are so excited to have more group volunteer opportunities with our office expansion! We have found that groups between 5-10 work best. Details about our four regular group volunteer opportunities are below.

Delivery Day Takeover: Gather your team, office, or group of friends and complete all of Little Hands Virginia’s deliveries for the day. We are happy to give you a brief tour, then we will help load up cars and you’ll be on your way. This takes about two hours door to door. This is great team building, and you can get to know other partners in the community too during deliveries. Grab Starbucks across the street as you head out, or meet up for lunch after deliveries are complete.

Diaper Bank Packaging: Each month we package up an average of 30,000 diapers for community partners through our diaper bank program to end diaper need in our community. Help us package up all of the orders and get them ready to go to partners. We have found that eight people is a great number for this project, however you can have as few as five or as many as 10 people participate. This takes about two hours.

Bundle Diapers: We are so grateful to our community for donating diapers to us in-kind throughout the year. We repackage all diapers donated to us to packages of 25 for consistency, to make it easy to fill diaper bank orders and individual requests. Your group is welcome to come into the office to bundle diapers, or take a car (or two!) full of diapers back to your office or another location to do this project.

Laundry: Wash and sort clothing donations for us as a group. We’ll send you home with multiple bags of gently-used clothing that has been donated to us. Your group can sort and fold clothing together and return it to us at your convenience.

The person who will serve as the point of contact for your group should sign up for the opportunity and shift you are interested in at the link below, and then we will be in touch to coordinate.

If available dates don’t align with when your group is looking to volunteer, contact Taylor Keeney (taylor@littlehandsva.org) directly and we will see if we can find a date that works for Little Hands and your group. Some group opportunities have to be during a certain time of the month because of the program they support, and others have more flexibility. Have another idea for a way your group can get involved? Email Taylor!
